Zabljak, Montenegro: July 23-26, 2015
The 7th EUSA European Universities Karate Championship concluded on July 26th with the finals matches and the Closing Ceremony in Zabljak, Montenegro.
Almost 120 participants from 44 Universities took part in this year’s edition of the event which started on July 23 2015.
The Opening Ceremony of the 7th EUSA European Universities Karate Championship took place on July 24 in Zabljak, Montenegro, at the Sports Center Zabljak.
The Ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Zabljak Mr Veselin Vukicevic, President of Karate Federation of Montenegro Mr Dragan Sakotic, representative of the EUSA Games 2016 Mr Marko Zunic, Mr Boris Sekulic, President of the Organizing Committee and Students Sports Association of Montenegro (SSAM) and Predrag Zecevic, SSAM EC President, representatives of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Filipe Santos and Mr Patrik Perosa and other guests.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee participants were first welcomed by Mr Vukicevic, the Mayor of the Municipality of Zabljak. EUSA Executive Committee representative Mr Santos, EUSA honorary member, welcomed all participants and wished all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities great competitions and all the best. He also thanked the Organizing Committee for all their contributions.
The Opening ceremony featured march-pass of the athletes, raising of the EUSA flag and students’ and EUSA anthem Gaudeamus Igitur, oath of the athletes and officials and also an interesting cultural programme.
The competition was organized between July 23 and 26 by the Students Sports Association of Montenegro with contribution of Municipality of Zabljak and Montenegrin Directorate of Youth and Sport, hosting competitors of 44 European universities from nine countries.
It’s not first time that Students Sports Association of Montenegro is organizing international students sports events. SSAM has already successfully organized the 1st European Universities Karate Championship 2003 in Podgorica, 6th European Universities Futsal Championship 2009 in Podgorica, 7th World University Karate Championship 2010 in Podgorica, 9th European Universities Tennis Championship 2013 in Bar and 9th World University Karate Championship 2014 in Bar.
First time EUSA will present cups for the winners of overall standings in both male and female categories. Competition was divided in kata and kumite individual and team in both men and women categories. The most successful University in general order was Sarajevo University from Bosnia and Herzegovina while Turkish Istanbul Aydin University took second place in overall ranking.
During competition medals and awards were presented by Mr Felipe Santos, EUSA honorary member, Mr Patrik Perosa, EUSA Sports manager, Mr Veselin Vukicevic, Major of the Municipality of Zabljak, Mr Boris Sekulic, President of the Students Sports Association of Montenegro and Organizing committee and Mr Dragan Sakotic, President of Karate Federation of Montenegro.
During the closing ceremony, the EUSA flag was passed to representatives of Portugal, as next European Universities Karate Championship will take place in Coimbra, Portugal in 2017 and all athletes and teams are warmly welcomed to join the next EUSA Karate events.
